Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. That’s because the Native bands of Oklahoma have operated Bingo games for many years. Patrons from many of the surrounding states get in passenger cars and travel to Oklahoma to wager on Bingo on the weekends.

The 1988 IGRA was introduced after a landmark decree by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. From that instance, 23 of the 39 Native tribes located in Oklahoma have established bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the gaming restrictions, and today operate 10 casinos of their own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling halls were built on. Electronic games like slots were not approved, because they are believed to contribute to gambling addiction at a higher rate than bingo.

In the past few years, Oklahoma governing edicts has altered to permit big Amerindian betting gambling halls. You’ll now see American Indian gambling halls with slot machine games, video poker and vingt-et-un tables. Craps and roulette are still not allowed in the Native gambling halls yet, however that is only a waiting game. Nobody can authority whether having other games in the bingo parlors will do for the popularity of bingo.
